The Kind of people more likely to monitor their online identity:

The way people use the internet has changed dramatically from its inception about 40 years ago. Nowadays privacy issue is becoming a concern to most internet users especially the young adults internet users ages 18 to 29. This group remain the group that would be concern about the amount of information posted on the internet about them. These people have taken the steps to change the privacy setting on their profile to limit the amount of information they share with people about themselves.

How much of online information is accurate?

Not all online information is accurate. One annoying thing about internet is that anyone can create a website within a minute and post inaccurate information about himself or services. It is essential for internet users to check the information critically to know if it is accurate or not. Sometime it is good to compare another source when searching for information. If however, it is a government publication, the information will most likely be accurate.

What is... and why do we care about .... networked individualism?

This is the changes that communities started experiencing from groups to network even before the invention of the internet. Future of Social Networks

Nobody knows what the future hold for social networking in the next 10 years. When social networking was first introduced, it offered something new within the communication networks. It created the ability to communicate information between groups and individuals. Before social network was introduced there were other forms of communication between people such as email, telephone and wireless networks. When social network was introduced, it became more popular than all other networks. People switched to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Linkedln.

However, I believe because of the increasing issue of privacy, social networking might one day become obsolete. Full privacy cannot be achieved in a social network, most networks provide few privacy options, if any, for the users.

Social Networking

My Space and Facebook are popular social networking sites. Facebook is the largest social network with about 800 million users worldwide. It is used by adults and teenagers of all ages. Facebook users can like and share something into its network without leaving its web page. This is how far the technology has grown. My Space has about 70 million visitors and has become the equivalent of hanging around at the mall for teens. Facebook is more of college students. Twitter too is more of a social networking site that enables his users to send and read text based post. Twitter sometime is described as SMS C Short Message Service) of the internet. Users join these social networking sites voluntarily and add their contents through their profile page.

The social network sites have had lots of impact on businesses and advertisement. Since the number of the people that use these site have grown significantly, marketers are using the sites to reach out to their prospective customers. More people are getting involved in these sites to grow their businesses. It is one of the easiest and least expensive and most effective ways to gain exposure and strengthen business reputation. People can shop for things on Facebook without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Also, social networking has become part of politics in today's world as politicians are using the medium to reach out to their supporters and even lash out on their opponent. Social network also has an impact on pop culture as well. Most pop artist have been able to post their jobs on the sites.

Social networking sites are being used by the government to promote government information and services. It is used for recruitment and advertisement of government jobs and also to announce upcoming events and recruiting professional.

There has been lots of controversies relating to privacy issues on social networks. Facebook has been under the limelight in recent time. Most information posted on Facebook and My Space are visible to other people's pages hence infringing on privacy.

Unlike Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, Google is an American multinational public corporation that is used for internet search. Google hosts and develops a number of internet-based services and products.

How Internet Works

One thing I love about the internet is that it does not belong to anyone. That is amazing!!! Internet is a global collections of networks both big and small. Internet uses the standard Internet Protocol Suit (TCP/IP) to serve billions of people that connect to it all over the world. Each computer that is connected to the internet must have a unique address in order to communicate with each other. This is called the Internet Protocol. (IP)

Diagram 2

Internet is accessed through an Internet Service Provider. There must be an IP address which must be typed on the website link to provide connections. The browser will send out a request to the address. The router will then relay the message along the best route possible for the connection. As soon as the data packet arrives at the website, the server will read the request and send it back through a return address inside the data packet.
