Social Networking

My Space and Facebook are popular social networking sites. Facebook is the largest social network with about 800 million users worldwide. It is used by adults and teenagers of all ages. Facebook users can like and share something into its network without leaving its web page. This is how far the technology has grown. My Space has about 70 million visitors and has become the equivalent of hanging around at the mall for teens. Facebook is more of college students. Twitter too is more of a social networking site that enables his users to send and read text based post. Twitter sometime is described as SMS C Short Message Service) of the internet. Users join these social networking sites voluntarily and add their contents through their profile page.

The social network sites have had lots of impact on businesses and advertisement. Since the number of the people that use these site have grown significantly, marketers are using the sites to reach out to their prospective customers. More people are getting involved in these sites to grow their businesses. It is one of the easiest and least expensive and most effective ways to gain exposure and strengthen business reputation. People can shop for things on Facebook without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Also, social networking has become part of politics in today's world as politicians are using the medium to reach out to their supporters and even lash out on their opponent. Social network also has an impact on pop culture as well. Most pop artist have been able to post their jobs on the sites.

Social networking sites are being used by the government to promote government information and services. It is used for recruitment and advertisement of government jobs and also to announce upcoming events and recruiting professional.

There has been lots of controversies relating to privacy issues on social networks. Facebook has been under the limelight in recent time. Most information posted on Facebook and My Space are visible to other people's pages hence infringing on privacy.

Unlike Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, Google is an American multinational public corporation that is used for internet search. Google hosts and develops a number of internet-based services and products.
